About the ambulance
Diabetology in Váš Lekár Polyclinic is a specialist clinic dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and long-term follow-up of patients with diabetes mellitus (diabetes) and other metabolic and nutritional disorders.
The most common diseases that a diabetologist encounters include type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes , as well as disorders of fat metabolism or obesity. An important goal of treatment is to stabilise glycaemia levels, prevent complications and improve the overall metabolic balance of the body.
Part of the diabetological examination is professional consultation, evaluation of laboratory results, glycaemic control a setting individual treatment. Patient education on proper diet, exercise and lifestyle, which are integral to the control of diabetes and metabolic diseases, also plays an important role.
Patients in the outpatient clinic are carefully treated by MUDr. Alida Taniwall, a specialist in diabetes, metabolic and nutritional disorders, who is dedicated to the long-term management of patients with metabolic diseases and the individual adjustment of treatment.
The diabetic examination itself takes place in a calm atmosphere with emphasis on patient comfort, professional treatment management and clear communication.

How to reach us
Váš Lekár Clinic can be found on the ground floor of the Eurovea 2 building. You have a choice of two inputs. The first entrance is located in the small square in front of the main entrance to Eurovea 2, next to the Eurovea Tower – on the left. The clinic can also be reached via the entrance from the promenade towards the Apollo Bridge – from the Danube. Parking is available in the Eurovea shopping center or at the Slovak National Theatre. - Patients visiting our clinic for the first time are kindly requested to arrive approximately 10 – 15 minutes before the examination in order to register at the client centre. You must present your insurance card or ID card (or other proof of identity) when registering. It is necessary to bring an exchange slip (referral, or doctor’s report) from the GP, or. another specialist.

It is advisable to see a diabetologist when elevated blood sugar, excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained fatigue, weight loss, recurrent infections or impaired wound healing. Examination is also indicated for prediabetes or increased risk of diabetes.
The first visit includes a detailed medical history, physical examination, blood pressure and weight measurements. Part of living laboratory tests (fasting glycaemia, HbA1c, or other parameters), supplemented by other tests as needed.

Yes. It is possible to undergo the examination without being reimbursed by health insurance as a self-payer according to the current price list.
Yes. The outpatient clinic provides diagnosis and treatment both type 1 and type 2 diabetes including setting insulin and oral treatment.
Yes. At gestational diabetes care includes glycaemic monitoring, regimen measures and, if necessary, adjustment of treatment in collaboration with gynaecologist. In secondary forms of diabetes, including drug-induced hyperglycaemia, treatment is tailored to the underlying disease and the therapy being used.
Yes. Part of the care is assessment of lipid spectrum and other metabolic parametersas diabetes is closely associated with cardiovascular risk.
Monitoring includes regular glycaemic checks, HbA1c determinations and the use of glucose meters or continuous glucose monitoring as appropriate. The frequency of check-ups depends on the type of diabetes and treatment. In stable condition, usually every 3 to 6 months, more often with treatment changes or unstable values.
Preventive screening for complications is recommended periodically according to the type and duration of diabetes. They include eye examination, kidney function check, urinalysis and cardiovascular risk assessment.
Yes. We recommend to bring all available results and medical reports for a comprehensive health assessment.
Yes. Part of the treatment is a brief education on eating habits, weight reduction and dietary measures. If you need a more extensive consultation and catering setup, we recommend working with our nutritional therapist.

You can make an appointment for an examination by telephone on +421 940 40 90 70, always for a specific time. Please note that the examination time is approximate, as the examination may be slightly longer. The client centre administrator will offer you the earliest possible appointment according to the doctor’s availability.
We try to ensure that you have an appointment as soon as possible. The general practitioner will indicate an acute appointment and arrange an appointment with a specialist according to the urgency. The management of acute cases is fully taken care of by the outpatient clinic.

For our clients, we provide referrals and contact to our contractual and non-contractual partners. The benefit of an annual membership is that our Client Centre takes care of all the management and referral of the examination. We will make an appointment for you to be examined by a contracted partner and inform you in a timely manner of the date, location and preparation for the examination.

Under current legislation, an exchange ticket is required for most specialisations. You can find precise information on where it is required in the section “Additional information” for each outpatient clinic.
Please first make an appointment with your GP, who will issue an exchange ticket to a specialist if necessary (except in specialties where one is not required). If you have a medical card at our general practice, you can arrange everything under one roof with us – from the examination to the exchange ticket.

Capitalized clients
A capitated client is one who has a signed Health Care Agreement with a general practitioner or gynaecologist and is in possession of medical records. This client is entitled to complete health care, including a statutory preventive check-up, which is covered by public health insurance.
Uncapitated clients are not eligible for reimbursement of this exam by the health insurance company. The agreement is signed for a minimum of six months, after which time it is possible to switch to another doctor, including a gynecologist. If you have signed this agreement, your general practitioner and gynaecologist are your primary doctors in the area.
The healthcare agreement is signed by the client and the doctor, who will also explain the procedure to the client. Subsequently, the nurse will arrange for the request and transfer of the medical documentation from the previous doctor to us at the Váš Lekár Polyclinic and the general practitioner’s outpatient clinic.
However, this is not possible until six months after the last Health Care Agreement has been signed with the current GP or gynaecologist. Once your medical records have been received, our nurse will contact you to arrange an initial check-up.
The client gets the opportunity to see more than 23 specialists in one facility, including a general practitioner. He can also avail of expert counselling to improve physical and mental health as well as self-care within one building.
