Benefits of an extended preventive examination

The importance of prevention has come to the fore in recent years. Many people neglect their health due to responsibilities and workload. However, properly executed preventive health care takes a minimum of time. That's why we are coming up with the concept of an extended preventive check-up offering personalized medicine. We have designed it with the individual needs of each client in mind, depending on their age and gender. It focuses on the values that currently affect his health the most. It should be taken by everyone who wants to take an active part in their health.

As part of the Extended Preventive Examination, you will undergo a series of examinations and tests that are aimed at monitoring more than 20 different parameters. These include a physical examination, electrocardiogram (ECG), laboratory blood tests and abdominal ultrasound. Women undergo a comprehensive gynecological examination and men are examined by a urologist. Our blood tests give you the most detailed and comprehensive information regarding cardiovascular disease and your risk of developing it in the future.

Benefits of personalised medicine

Personalized medicine enables physicians to detect and effectively minimize the risk of disease development in clients with a genetic predisposition. It is also the basis for setting an optimal lifestyle and “prevention protocol”. Thanks to it, the doctor knows much more precisely which parameters and how often it is necessary to examine a given client in order to detect in time any signs of the development of a health problem. The client is thus not burdened with examinations that are unnecessary in his case.

The biggest benefit of the Extended Preventive Examination is the fact that the client undergoes the initial examination and all other examinations in one place within 3 hours without having to leave the premises of the clinic.

At different times of life, different parameters are important

While for women between 20. and 40 years of age, we focus on vitamin D, TSH and folic acid levels to promote a healthy menstrual cycle and fertility, and in women over 40, we monitor fasting blood sugar and glycated haemoglobin levels in addition to blood sugar levels for the prevention of diabetes 2. type, which often occurs in postmenopausal women.

In men in their thirties, we monitor AST levels, which is a fairly accurate indicator of liver cell damage or heart failure (due to alcohol abuse, for example). In men in their forties, we evaluate PSA enzyme levels, which may indicate prostate cancer if elevated.

After overcoming 40. The Year of Life focuses on the prevention of civilization diseases in both sexes. In addition to the aforementioned diabetes-related values 2. We also screen for colon cancer risk. These clients also undergo a stool occult bleeding test. A reduced iron level in the blood can also alert the doctor to a tumour in the body, so we monitor the ferritin level in all clients. This gives a much more accurate indication of the iron stores in the blood compared to the serum iron value monitored as part of a traditional preventive check-up.

Examination by sex

According to statistics, breast cancer is diagnosed every 19 seconds worldwide. More than 30 000 women in Slovakia are living with this diagnosis. Prevention in this area is increasingly important for early detection of the disease. Approximately 30% of Slovene women seek a gynaecologist only when the cancer is already at an advanced stage. The extended preventive examination includes a comprehensive examination by a gynaecologist together with an ultrasound of the pelvic organs. The client can choose whether she wants to have a breast or thyroid ultrasound.

For men, the Extended Preventive Examination focuses on the prevention of atherosclerosis and the resulting cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack or stroke. These diseases are responsible for 30% of all deaths worldwide. All men undergo a painless ABI examination to assess the current state of the blood vessels in the lower limbs as part of the Extended Preventive Examination
and the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Parameters key for all

Compared to the statutory preventive check-up, the blood tests in the Extended Preventive Check-up are more detailed and monitor more than 20 key parameters. They provide the client with more accurate information not only about their current health status, but also about the risk of developing civilisation diseases in the future. The above-mentioned parameters such as ferritin, AST and TSH are not part of the statutory preventive check-up by a general practitioner.

Diseases you can prevent with RPP

Atherosclerosis is a serious medical condition in which fatty substances, especially cholesterol, are deposited in the blood vessels. As a result of narrowing of blood vessels, blood flow and therefore blood supply to certain tissues and organs is restricted. Fatty substances in the vessel wall form plaques. Red blood cells get caught on these and a blood clot is formed.
If part of the clot breaks off and travels further through the bloodstream, there is a high risk of blockage of a smaller blood vessel. The result is a stroke or heart attack. A simple ABI test and assessment of apolipoprotein levels (B) and lipoprotein (a) we can identify the risk of atherosclerosis fairly accurately, intervene early and help the client with lifestyle modifications that will prevent the development of cardiovascular disease.

Diabetes – number of people with diabetes 2. type (caused mainly by inappropriate lifestyle choices) is increasing worldwide every year. The fasting blood sugar level and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) value will give the doctor a clear picture of the risk of developing this civilisation disease in a given client. In individuals at increased risk for type 2 diabetes, starting treatment early can minimize complications associated with the disease, such as nerve and arteriolar damage, kidney damage, and cardiovascular disorders.

Cancer – time plays a major role in cancer. Expanded Preventive Screening does screening for multiple cancers depending on age and gender. In particular, we monitor the risk of rectal and colorectal cancer in people over 40 using a test for hidden bleeding in the stool. Women can have their breasts ultrasounded and take proactive steps to prevent breast cancer. Men over 40 years of age are eligible for PSA enzyme level monitoring as part of an Enhanced Preventive Screening, changes in which can detect prostate cancer. Identifying unusual changes or tumours at an early stage significantly expands treatment options and improves prognosis.

Liver disorders – good liver health is essential for overall health. Elevated ALT and AST values may indicate impaired function of this organ. However, most general practitioners do not monitor AST levels as part of a statutory preventive check-up. However, the ratio of these two enzymes can reveal a lot about the health of the liver. A significantly elevated AST level compared to ALT indicates possible alcohol abuse. Otherwise, an elevated ALT level may indicate a stalked liver. Early detection provides the doctor to choose the appropriate treatment from a larger number of options.

Hormonal disorders – by evaluating TSH and vitamin D hormone levels, the doctor can detect hormonal imbalances early. Suboptimal levels of these hormones can often contribute to infertility problems, immunity and other health complications. Well-targeted treatment will help restore the hormonal balance in the body. In postmenopausal women, monitoring vitamin D levels is important in the prevention of osteoporosis.

Nutritional malnutrition – information on ferritin levels, vitamins, and lipid profile provides the practitioner with a detailed overview of the client’s current metabolic health and any deficiencies in specific nutrients. Based on this data, the doctor is able to point the client in the right direction in terms of dietary modification and supplementation. Such an intervention can significantly reduce the risk of chronic diseases of civilisation. If necessary, the client can pay a visit to the nutrition counselling clinic, which is also located in the polyclinic.

The extended preventive examination offers a comprehensive and holistic view of the client’s current state of health as well as their prognosis for the future. This information will enable them to make informed decisions and take proactive steps for a longer, more active life.

MUDr. Boris Bajer, PhD. and internist MUDr. Andrea Fabiánová. They were inspired by their own long experience in medical practice.

Several famous faces have already undergone the extended preventive examination. Actresses Kristína Tormová and Kristína Svarinská and influencers Andy Štěchová and Kristína Suchánková were convinced of its benefits for health prevention.
