He has carried out a number of international research projects, for example in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin and the University of Vermont in the USA or with CERN. He has completed several internships – in Denmark, Germany, Norway and Belgium. He was the first in Slovakia to perform a special fusion transperineal biopsy of the prostate.
He regularly lectures at national and international professional conferences. He is part of the international committee of BURST, the British organisation of urological researchers. He promotes the topic of urology and health on his successful Instagram profile @urolog_svihra, and according to Forbes magazine, he is one of the most popular influencers in the health industry. He has co-authored numerous professional articles and books.
Professionally, he is mainly involved in complex diagnosis and treatment of urinary calculi, diagnosis and research of prostate cancer and application of machine learning in urology.
Mr. Švihra, why did you decide to join the team of Váš Lekár Polyclinic?
Honestly, I have a lot of patients from Bratislava and its surroundings and I wanted to be closer to them, as Slovakia is a small country, but Martin is far away. I was also intrigued by the polyclinic concept. It will not be easy, but if the concept of preventive medicine can be put into practice, it will be a great thing for Slovakia. And I will be happy to be part of such a project.
What are you most looking forward to in the cooperation?
I’m looking forward to building something new. I hope we will be a good team. Working with people is always a challenge. But when you get a great group together with a genuine interest, the work goes off without a hitch.
If you had to tell your potential patients something, what would it be?
My personal policy is that I strive to give each of my patients the best health care possible. I sincerely care about this, it’s not just empty words. At the same time, I must add that I do not promise miracles on the spot. Even today’s state-of-the-art medicine cannot cure many diseases. Moreover, the patient is in charge of his or her own health and must take responsibility for it. This is, after all, the idea of the Váš Lekár Clinic.
